The founder, Rosemond K. Acheampong upon realizing that some students attending her family - run educational complex lack certain basic needs such as: menstrual napkins, disinfectants, suitable clothing and many more and decided to do something about it.

Every month, she would buy the most needed items and share to each girl according to her need. The repeated act has then metamorphosed into the Girlswing Foundation.

Over the years, the Girlswing team have passionately worked together in coordinating various projects and activities for other under privileged communities with the sole purpose of making a difference in the lives of young girls . In 2016, the Foundation became a registered entity with the mandate to "help young girls discover themselves and their potential". Support that empowers every girl child to dream and make a difference in the society they find themselves.

The organization is able to do these by implementing projects/programs that are targeted at promoting social, educational, health, vocational, leadership and character development. It also educate girls about reproductive health, their rights and related issues which are aimed at improving the quality of life of every girl child.
